Why visit Harrogate?

Following the discovery of the first medicinal spring in 1571, Harrogate rapidly became one of the foremost spa towns in Europe. Today, this rich heritage has been preserved and extended with elegant architecture, broad tree-lined streets and an impressive range of shops, boutiques, tea rooms, coffee shops, wine bars and restaurants, amply catering for the successful conference trade that now dominates the town.

The recently refurbished Royal Pump Room Museum, resplendent in black and gold with gleaming copper dome, provides an insight into Harrogate's history and the opportunity to see the original sulphur well and taste the water. Nearby, the original Turkish Baths are still open seven days a week at the Royal Baths Assembly Rooms - well worth the experience!

Harrogate's unique ambience and environment is protected by over 200 acres of parks and gardens which encircle the town, providing radiant displays all year round, justifying its internationally acclaimed status as 'England's Floral Town'. However, Harrogate also lies in the heart of some of England's the most spectacular countryside, and with historic sites such as Fountains Abbey, Ripley Castle and Knaresborough so close by, the town provides the perfect base for an extended stay to enjoy the legendary Yorkshire hospitality!

Where can I stay?

There is a vast range of hotel and guest house accommodation in Harrogate, nearly all within ten minutes walking distance from the conference venue. All the rooms have full private facilities, though some smaller guest houses (budget accommodation reserved for students) may only have a wash basin. Please note that if you are willing to share, the larger hotels can offer superior and more spacious accommodation at very reasonable rates

Accommodation has been reserved at specially negotiated rates for the BNA and can be booked online directly through www.reservation-highway.co.uk, where you can browse through the enormous choice of establishments. There will be a limited amount of budget accommodation (from £30.00 per night) available on request for STUDENTS ONLY. Please contact the accommodation helpline (Tel: 01423 525577) directly for details and remember to BOOK EARLY to avoid disappointment.

How do I get to Harrogate?
Harrogate is situated about fifteen miles from either York or Leeds, and is easily accessible:

By rail

Both York and Leeds have major mainline connections to the rest of the country. A regular local train service runs between Leeds and York via Harrogate.

By road

Harrogate is equidistant from London and Edinburgh (200 miles) and the east/west coasts (60 miles) so it is uniquely positioned right at the heart of the country. An extensive motorway network links Harrogate to the main cities in the UK. Many of the larger hotels in Harrogate have ample car parking facilities. Please note that there is a parking charge at the Harrogate International Centre.

By air

Leeds/Bradford International Airport is only a 20 minute drive away for many domestic, European and some long-haul flights. Alternatively, Manchester Airport, one of the UK's largest and busiest international airports, is only about one hour away by road or rail.
