Why
visit Harrogate?
Following the discovery of the first medicinal spring in
1571, Harrogate rapidly became one of the foremost spa towns
in Europe. Today, this rich heritage has been preserved and
extended with elegant architecture, broad tree-lined streets
and an impressive range of shops, boutiques, tea rooms, coffee
shops, wine bars and restaurants, amply catering for the successful
conference trade that now dominates the town.
The recently refurbished Royal Pump Room Museum, resplendent
in black and gold with gleaming copper dome, provides an insight
into Harrogate's history and the opportunity to see the original
sulphur well and taste the water. Nearby, the original Turkish
Baths are still open seven days a week at the Royal Baths
Assembly Rooms - well worth the experience!
Harrogate's unique ambience and environment is protected
by over 200 acres of parks and gardens which encircle the
town, providing radiant displays all year round, justifying
its internationally acclaimed status as 'England's Floral
Town'. However, Harrogate also lies in the heart of some of
England's the most spectacular countryside, and with historic
sites such as Fountains Abbey, Ripley Castle and Knaresborough
so close by, the town provides the perfect base for an extended
stay to enjoy the legendary Yorkshire hospitality!
