Year of the Brain in Europe in 2014

01 May 2012 - EBC recognises that the economies of Europe and difficulties of European society are a major focus for the European Institutions which in turn affects the European Commission priorities.

With this in mind, EBC decided to formally withdraw from the process of having the European Commission propose a European Year of the Brain in 2014 . Click here to see a letter to the EC President Barroso communicating this decision.

Nonetheless, they still want to deliver a Year of the Brain in Europe in 2014 together with their coalition of more than 200 organisations, but they are no longer seeking to make this an institutionally led programme. EBC have been working on it for several years and plans are very advanced, in order to deliver a successful programme.

EBC believe they will still significantly collaborate on this project with the European Institutions and are already grateful to Commissioner Geoghegan-Quinn and DG Research for their plans to hold a month of the Brain in May 2013 and involving EBC in the preparation process.
