Winners of the BNA Credibility Prizes 2024

Dementia is the biggest health challenge of our century. To date, there is no way to prevent it or even slow its progression, and there is an urgent need to fill the knowledge gap in our basic understanding of the diseases that cause it.
The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) is the biggest UK initiative driving forward research to fill this gap.
Imperial College London is one of the world’s most highly ranked universities. It has made a major commitment to neurodegenerative disease research in its new Department of Brain Science. It is the only UK University hosting two Centres for the UK Dementia Research Institute: the UK DRI Centre at Imperial and the UK DRI Care Research and Technology Centre.
The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) at Imperial has been established to address a medical research area of the highest importance and future impact. As one of seven national centres of excellence embedded in major UK universities, we intend to transform the diagnosis, treatment and care of people with dementias. The Medical Research Council and charity partners the Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK have invested £290m in fulfilment of the ambition identified in the Prime Minister's 2020 Challenge on Dementia. We now want to appoint an Advanced Research Fellow.
We are looking for an accomplished investigator who is willing to take risks to pursue important objectives.
Duties and responsibilities
The UK DRI is looking for a progressive group leader committed to exploring transformative approaches to dementia research in a highly multi-disciplinary environment. The Advanced Research Fellow will establish the UK DRI Multi-‘omics Atlas Project – a £2M Director’s Strategic Initiative in the UK DRI – dedicated to the comprehensive, multi-omic mapping of the cellular pathology of Alzheimer’s disease over representative stages in its evolution (MAP AD).
We are looking particularly for scientists with demonstrable expertise in neurodegeneration/ dementia research to establish their own research programme. While not intended to be exhaustive, specific areas of interest include integrating biological data across the multiple "omes", e.g. the genome, proteome, transcriptome, synaptome, lipidome, epigenome, metabolome, and microbiome would be welcome.
The Advanced Research Fellow will be expected to plan and lead a high-quality programme of research in the UK DRI, undertake project management and supervise multi-disciplinary teams. In addition, the Fellow will be expected to submit publications to refereed journals and to attract external research funding.
