The Research Institute at the Hospital for Sick Children and the Department of Physiology at the University of Toronto (UofT) are accepting applications for two full–time permanent Scientists with non-tenured faculty appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor, in the specialty area of neuroscience. The appointments are available immediately. The Search Committee is seeking two outstanding individuals with proven internationally recognized track records in any field of neuroscience, although applicants with an interest in the following areas are particularly encouraged to apply: developmental neuroscience, cellular and molecular neuroscience, systems neuroscience, human neurophysiology/neural dynamics. Candidates must have a Ph.D., or a M.D./Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline, as well as significant postdoctoral research experience and an established record of research excellence. They are expected to demonstrate evidence of research excellence, including, publications in leading journals, presentations at significant conferences, successful research funding, and a track record of increasing leadership experience in supervising a research team. Applicants with expertise in cutting-edge technologies are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will initiate and maintain an original, competitive, and independently funded research program of international caliber and will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience within the range $120K – $140K CAD. A competitive benefits package is being offered along with support for relocation expenses. A Tier 2 Chair nominee should be within ten years of receiving their PhD. The successful candidate will be appointed as a Scientist in the Research Institute and is expected to qualify for an academic primary-appointment as an Assistant Professor (status only) in the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto. Should be successful candidate wish to practice as an MD, the successful candidate will have to obtain an appropriate Certificate of Registration from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (license to practice), and appropriate Visa (if applicable), by the job start date. The successful candidate’s research program will be housed at the SickKids Research Institute in the state-of-the-art Peter Gilgan Centre for Research & Learning (686 Bay Street, Toronto, Canada), and/or the Medical Sciences Building, University of Toronto (1 King’s College Circle), both co-located in the Discovery District in the heart of downtown Toronto. The Department awarded the first Ph.D. at the University of Toronto in 1897.
