Job description

Applications are invited for an Associate Professorship of Neuroscience based at the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, Parks Road, Oxford, with effect from 1 October 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is in association with a Tutorial Fellowship in Pre-clinical Medicine at St Peter’s College and the successful candidate will also be appointed as a College Lecturer at Oriel College.

The Associate Professor will join a dynamic and collaborative department and will engage in high level original and independent research in an area complementary to the Department’s research strategy in Neuroscience. The main duties of this post will be to secure significant external funding and engage in the management of research projects, through publication in scholarly journals, participation in international conferences and seminars, and through other media. They will contribute to the Department’s teaching of Cardiovascular Physiology to the pre-clinical students studying for the 1st BM and FHS Medical Sciences, and of non-medical students studying the FHS course in Biomedical Sciences (Neuroscience), as well as college teaching and tutorials.

 

Requirements

You should have a higher degree (DPhil/PhD) in a relevant area of research; show evidence of excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, supervision and research training, and a strong demonstrable commitment to the organisation and delivery of teaching in both Department and Colleges. You will show evidence of substantial independent research accomplishment and a strong publication record, as well as evidence of a substantial and realisable research plan which will complement the Department’s research strategy. You should also have the ability and willingness to undertake the full range of administrative duties within the Department and the Colleges, and to undertake teaching in the tutorial context and the pastoral care of students.

Salary

The Combined University and College salary: £46,336 - £62,219 p.a., plus a College Housing Allowance, currently £8,628 p.a.. An allowance of £2,700 p.a. would be made upon award of the title of Full Professor.
