New expert-led consensus to shape the future of MND drug discovery and development research
6th December 2023
The British Society for Neuroendocrinology (BSN) is a long-established society with around 450 members, about one third of which are based outside the UK. The BSN runs an annual meeting and has a successful international journal, the Journal of Neuroendocrinology (JNE), which is published for the BSN by Wiley. It also has a significant programme of grants and awards.
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding and imaginative freelance Communications Officer. This is a new role set up as part of our strategic plan for 2018-2023. The BSN is interested primarily in expertise and potential, but it is likely that the successful candidate will have a bioscience degree and several years’ experience in science communication and/or science-based marketing. Articulacy, the ability to engage with a range of people, and the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely will be essential.
The main focus of the role will be communication to the bioscience community: members, potential members, journal authors and readers, and so on. The successful candidate will use their initiative to develop the role, so as to achieve the following aims:
The immediate tasks are listed below and the successful candidate will be expected to propose additional activities.
It is anticipated that the role will require about 1 day a week on an ongoing basis (probably variable throughout the year), but probably 1.5-2 days per week during the set-up phase. The hourly rate will be commensurate with the requirement for an experienced and outstanding person. The role will be home based, but may involve occasional travel.
The closing date for applications is 19 September. Interviews will be held in London on 1 October. The successful candidate will start as soon as they are available.
