2024 BNA Scholars announced
15th March 2024
We are looking for a Clinical Research Fellow to join our world-leading group that brings together expertise across the clinical and basic science spectrum of the physiology and pathology of human movement and movement disorders.
The development of new treatments for Cortico-Basal Syndrome (CBS) and its prototypic pathological substrate, Cortico-Basal Degeneration (CBD) is confounded by an incomplete understanding of the disease pathogenesis, pathological heterogeneity and the lack of diagnostic, progression and pathogenic biomarkers. This exciting role will involve developing a pan-European CBS network, and will be supervised by Profs. Huw Morris and Andrew Lees and Dr. Jon Rohrer. The study will involve the clinical and genetic study of CBS and PSP, together with relevant biomarkers. The main purpose of the study will be to understand the clinical, pathologic and biological diversity of CBS within the FTD spectrum. It will involve building a UK and European network of patients with CBS who will be available for future therapeutic and translational studies.
The post holder will be responsible for recruiting and assessing patients from the UK and liaising with other European centres. The successful candidate will also be responsible for developing the data collection protocol, data analysis and publication and presentation of research findings. It is anticipated that the post holder will register for a PhD.
The successful candidate will be medically qualified and will hold GMC registration and MRCP or equivalent. Experience of working with patients with CBS or similar conditions is essential as is a very high level of consideration and care for participants. Applicants must have an interest in the underlying pathology and pathogenesis of PSP and CBS. IT proficiency at advanced user level (Spreadsheet, Word Processing, Database, Email, Web based applications) and good inter-personal skills with an ability to work co-operatively in a multidisciplinary setting are also required.
An appropriate honorary contract will be sought from UCLH and Royal Free, for which a DBS check will be required.
This post is funded by a CBD Solutions grant and PSP Association grant awarded to Professor Morris and is available immediately for three years in the first instance. The post is graded as Grade UCL Grade CL7 , the salary for which ranges from £35,661 to £44,392 per annum (including London Allowance).
