Job description

Dementia is the biggest health challenge of our century. 

The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) is the biggest UK initiative supporting research to fill this gap. 

The UK DRI Care Research & Technology centre brings together a diverse team of doctors, engineers and scientists who together can harness recent advances in artificial intelligence, engineering, robotics and sleep science to create new technologies that will deliver the highest quality dementia care in the home. The researchers are investigating new ways to keep people independent in their homes, improve their general health and sleep, and reduce confusion and agitation. Their work is guided by patients and their caregivers, focusing on issues that cause the most problems. 

We are now seeking an outstanding junior doctor interested taking on a challenging role with considerable scope for independent scientific achievement and personal growth.

You would ideally be a pre-doctoral applicant and will be a key member of the research staff in the group of the Centre Head and Institute Associate Director Professor David Sharp.

You will work with the DRI team to support clinical aspects of the work, which will include new technology, advanced neuroimaging and fluid biomarker assessment.

You will have the opportunity to develop a research project and will be encouraged to undertake a PhD, applying for additional funding if required.

Salary is offered at £36,511 – £42,126 per annum inclusive of London Allowance.

There are 2 vacancies available for this role, of which one is available as a full-time, fixed term contract lasting 12 months, and the other is a full-time, fixed term contract lasting 3 years. (Post 1 – 12-month contract, Post 2 – 3-year contract).

You will be based at the Hammersmith Campus (East Acton), but will eventually move to the new White City Campus DRI Centre.

Person criteria

You will have a medical qualification with registration at the General Medical Council, a strong academic record and some post-registration experience.

Your ability to conduct a detailed review of recent literature and to synthesise concepts from the review to define new questions for further investigation is essential to this role.
