We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic postdoctorate academic clinician interested in using “big data”, novel sensors and cutting-edge statistical and machine learning approaches to enhance our ability to detect patient deterioration and improve patient care.

The postholder will enhance the successful academic collaboration between intensive care clinicians, engineers, medical statisticians, and qualitative research and human factors experts, which has consistently translated research into clinical practice.

Our vision is for patient care to become agnostic to patient location. From the patient’s home all the way to intensive care, we will develop monitoring and alerting systems appropriate to the environment and the patient.

Reporting to the senior clinical leads for the critical care research group, you will play a key role in the ongoing development of the research programme undertaken at the Kadoorie Centre for Critical Care Research and Education (John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford). You will be expected to work closely with the other researchers, engineers, and software developers working in the team.

The job will involve providing clinical support and expertise to facilitate shared research and development activities. You will also assist the senior researchers submit original manuscripts for peer-review publication and grant applications for future research projects.

The postholder will be encouraged to participate in their appropriate clinical specialty training programme. The appointee will be allocated to a supervising consultant according to experience and interests.

The successful applicant will have GMC registration; hold, or have submitted PhD/MD at the time of applying and it must have been fully awarded by the time the post is taken, and clinical skills and competence appropriate to current trainee level.

Excellent communication skills, evidence of relevant academic and research achievements, and involvement in a formal research project as well as the ability to work well under pressure are also essential. Skills in statistics and data analysis, understanding of use of technology in healthcare and experience of teaching and/or professional mentorship are desirable

The post is full-time (part-time employment will be considered, please state your proposed hours on your application). Fixed-term for 3 years in the first instance.
