The Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences is seeking to appoint a Departmental Lecturer to provide teaching for The University of Oxford Online Programme in Sleep Medicine. This is a postgraduate programme that runs almost entirely online. Students will be working towards either a Postgraduate Diploma or a Master’s qualification. In addition, students may also take individual modules for continuing professional development. The programme aims to provide a broad coverage of sleep medicine, ranging from the physiology of sleep at the molecular level, through to clinical intervention in sleep disorders. The programme is delivered online, with lectures pre-recorded for students to watch in their own time. Lectures are supplemented by live online group discussions, where students come together using web conferencing software to interact with one another and teaching staff. 

The programme is made up of eight topic modules and two research modules. The successful candidate will be expected to teach across a broad range of sleep medicine topics and research design and analysis. We are seeking a candidate with research and/or clinical expertise in sleep-disorders. Each module has a lead that is responsible for finalising the content of the modules, working with and coordinating course tutors in the design and delivery of course discussion groups, and in setting and marking examination questions. 

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of the programme, attending committee meetings and working with other members of the team and with other departments, to develop new educational tools. This will involve keeping abreast of advances in ‘e-learning’ technologies. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in appropriate administrative processes associated with the course as requested by the programme directorate. These will include, but are not limited to: assessing student applications for shortlisting, interviewing students for the course, writing student reports, following correct examination produces, assessing MSc level dissertations and acting as an examiner in the vivavoce exam. The successful candidate will be expected to supervise MSc dissertations and provide pastoral support to students. Another key aspect of the course is the residential school, where students spend one week in Oxford, attending intensive workshops on the practical and clinical aspects of sleep medicine. It is expected that the successful candidate will play a substantial role in the design and implementation of this summer school, working closely with other members of the Sleep and Circadian Neuroscience Institute (SCNi), but also approaching experts from elsewhere in Oxford and in other institutions. 

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in human sleep research or a closely related human research field, a proven record of research experience, a track record of research publications/ experience commensurate to career stage and relevant to sleep and sleep medicine.
