Job Summary:
St. George’s University (Grenada, West Indies) invites applicants for a full-time teaching position in the Department of Histology and Cell Biology in the Keith B. Taylor program located in Newcastle upon Tyne. The program is co-hosted with our partner institute Northumbria University.
The Discipline Manager for Histology and Cell Biology will be responsible for the delivery, assessment and maintenance of the Histology and Cell Biology component of the St George’s University Medical degree at the Keith B Taylor Global Scholars Programme (KBTGSP). The postholder will be accountable to the Assistant Dean, as well as to the Dean of Basic Sciences and will be expected to work closely with the relevant Course Director in Grenada. S/he will be expected to be in regular contact with their Northumbria University counterparts to ensure that all information is fully shared and any student issues are quickly identified and resolved.
The successful candidate will direct the Histology course in accordance with the procedures and guidelines set out within the St George’s University School of Medicine Faculty Handbook. S/he will ensure that examinations for the course are set jointly with the relevant Course Director in Grenada and are synchronised to preserve the sanctity of examinations. The postholder shall contribute at an appropriate level to school and faculty policy and practice in teaching as well as regularly collecting and responding to student feedback.
The successful candidate will also pursue, develop and lead research, innovation and impact at an appropriately benchmarked level. S/he will develop and lead pedagogic developments relating to learning and teaching to a level recognised externally for excellence. The postholder will also provide academic leadership through significant contributions to the overall work of the University and/or equivalent external organisations by representing the school and faculty on appropriate committees and groups.
Minimum Qualifications:
The candidate should have a terminal degree in an affiliated subject i.e. Ph.D. or M.D. M.Sc. M.D. Ph.D. and experience in a US based Medical Curriculum is an advantage. Evidence of proficiency in teaching and scholarly activity in the subject will be used as selection criterion. Familiarity with USMLE Step I board exams and experience with STEP style assessment is desirable.
Salary:
Salaries, paid in Great British Pounds (GBP), are competitive.

The Keith B.Taylor Global Scholars Programme (KBTGSP), a joint venture between St George’s University (SGU) School of Medicine (Grenada) and Northumbria University. In essence the KBTGSP is the First Year of Basic Sciences of SGU’s MD programme from which students progress to Year Two Basic Sciences in Grenada and on to two years of Clinical Rotations.
The KBTGSP was founded in January 2007 and is taught jointly by SGU and Northumbria faculty members. Over 1600 students have successfully completed the program and over 900 of these students have graduated as MDs, with the rest currently completing their degrees.
Subjects taught in First Year Basic Sciences are Anatomy, Histology and Cell Biology, Medical Biochemistry, Medical Physiology, Neuroscience, Medical Genetics, and Behavioural Science in a systems based-curriculum.
