Job details

The Rompani group at EMBL Rome is looking for a Research Technician who will participate in neuroscience research as part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists working within a highly collaborative international environment. We use a combination of in vivo imaging, mouse genetics, and virology to study how vision is influenced by other sensory systems and internal states.

The person appointed to this position will play an important part of supporting the science in the lab and will have expanded opportunities to participate in research projects involving the following skillsets:   (a) Wet lab: Designing molecular tools such as mouse lines and viral constructs, including associated biochemistry and molecular biology.     (b) Microscopy: Build and troubleshoot devices for performing in vivo neuronal activity recording and optogenetics combined with complex sensory stimulation.   (c) Behavioral tasks: Perform behavioural tests on mice combined with neuronal activity recording.   In addition to either of the above opportunities, an essential aspect of this position is having a key role in general laboratory organization, such as the maintenance of laboratory supplies, preparation of stock solutions, and providing various forms of support for group members throughout their projects.

Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a scientific discipline is required. Experience and expertise in at least one of the following categories corresponding to the major tasks above are preferred: (a) wet lab skills such as molecular biology, virology, genetics, cell biology, or biochemistry (b) microscopy skills such as two-photon microscopy or mini-endoscope, and (c) performing behavioural assays in rodents. Please indicate in the cover letter which skills you have and in which aspects of the lab you would like to be involved with. Excellent communication skills and fluency in English are required.
