The Medical School took its first medical students in September 2013, and has an expanding portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. This is an excellent opportunity for exceptional academics to join the University of Exeter Medical School at a time when the medical school is expanding, celebrating its REF success and opening new biomedical/genetic and health research and education facilities.  You will contribute to the development of health and biomedical research and education within the Medical School and will contribute to the efficient and effective delivery of our programmes. The appointee will be expected to interact closely and collaboratively with colleagues working in one of our principal research areas within the Institute of Biomedical & Clinical Sciences or the Institute of Health Research comprising of: Diabetes, Cardiovascular risk and Ageing; Neuroscience and Mental health; Health Services Research, and Environment and human health.  Applicants with expertise in drug design, therapeutics and trials, pharmacology and immunology aligned with these research strategies are particularly invited to apply, but other with expertise in statistics, bioinformatics, epidemiology, cell and molecular biology, genetics/genomics/epigenetics, physiology and neuroscience are also encouraged to apply.

With a PhD (or nearing completion) or equivalent you will have an independent, internationally-recognised research programme in an active field of research related or complementary to existing Exeter strengths. You will have a proven record of quality research publications, at least 2-3* with respect to the Higher Education Funding Council for England's Research Excellence Framework (REF). You will be able to demonstrate the following qualities and characteristics; the aptitude to develop familiarity with a variety of strategies to promote and assess learning and enthusiasm for developing and delivering undergraduate programmes, a strong record in attracting research funding, or demonstrable potential to attract such funding, teamwork skills to work in collaboration with existing group members, an active and supportive approach to inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research and education that will help to foster interactions and links both within the University and externally, the attitude and ability to engage in continuous professional development.
