Brunel University London is a world-class university based in Uxbridge, West London. The Department of Life Sciences undertakes high quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and scientific research across the disciplines of Biosciences (including Environmental Sciences), Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences, and Psychology. With over 90 academics based on a pleasant campus in greater London, we are a highly committed and forward thinking academic community, proud of our world-leading research, our diversity and the student experience we provide.

With around 580 undergraduates and 60 postgraduates, the Division of Psychology, delivers an undergraduate course with work placement in Psychology and Psychology & Sport (Sport, Health and Exercise), and a suite of MSc Programmes.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Division of Psychology to recruit a highly motivated academic to support the research strength of the Centre for Cognitive Neuroscience (CCN). The CCN aims to bring together researchers in psychology, sport science, clinical sciences and others. The CCN has three main research strands: (1) Vision – visual attention, visual perception, face perception and visual language; (2) Action – motor control, executive control and performance (e.g. sport), and (3) Plasticity – lifespan changes, acquisition of expertise (e.g. vision, action, language and performance), neurodegeneration/rehabilitation. Your area of research and teaching will be in the area of Clinical Neuroscience, with an emphasis on forensic neuroscience.

You will have a doctoral degree in a relevant field, supported by substantial experience at postdoctoral or equivalent industrial level, and a proven research track record demonstrated through high calibre outputs of a quality likely to contribute to our future UK Research Excellence Framework (REF) submission. Experience of teaching psychology at undergraduate level would be desirable. You will combine an aspiration to be world-class in your area of Cognitive Psychology and Clinical Neuroscience research with enthusiastic, student-centred and research-led teaching.

We are proud of the exceptional development structure for early career academics at Brunel University London. Under Brunel’s Academic Life Cycle policy, the appointment to Lecturer will be subject to a two-year probationary period (with associated reduction in teaching duties) followed by a two year development period. Subject to meeting probationary and development targets, the post holder will automatically be promoted to Senior Lecturer after four years.

We work hard to provide a supportive and positive environment and the Department of Life Sciences has recently been awarded an Athena SWAN Bronze Award. We are also a Disability Confident employer. The diversity of our staff adds greatly to this inclusive ethos, and we particularly welcome applications from women and under-represented groups.
