About the job

NTU Psychology is seeking a Lecturer in the Psychology and Hearing to further strengthen our research profile and to meet the demands of increased student numbers in our undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes. We particularly welcome applications that can contribute to our ambition to enhance the diversity of our curricula.

As a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Psychology and Hearing you will be joining the growing Hearing Group at NTU Psychology. We have a research track record of diverse topics in hearing: ranging from the neural coding of sound to multisensory integration and cognition, in normal-hearing and hearing-impaired populations. We have a wide range of lab facilities including a sound-attenuating booth, EEG, TMS, 1.5T MRI (currently used for structural scanning with functional capabilities in the process of installation), eye trackers, and a standing panel of over 300 older volunteers to facilitate research into the consequences of ageing. You will have a strong profile of independent research in any area of hearing, from fundamental neuroscience to strongly translational, and an ambition to produce internationally recognised work which will make a difference. This is an exciting opportunity to join and collaborate with a large and diverse group of Psychologists within a thriving and supportive department that also has an outstanding reputation for teaching on our undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

NTU Psychology

You will be joining a very large, lively, diverse, collegiate and ambitious group with an excellent reputation for its theoretically informed impactful and applied research and its teaching provision at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Colleagues in the department have a range of backgrounds, spanning most areas of psychology.

The Department has the largest and most productive research unit in the University and was responsible for a quarter of all academic outputs at NTU in the 2021 REF cycle. In the submission to REF2014 (Unit of Assessment A04, http://www.ref.ac.uk/) 60% of our research outputs were identified as internationally excellent or world leading and 100% of our research impact was recognised as internationally excellent with 73% described as world leading.

We are the largest provider of full-time undergraduate degrees in psychology in the UK. Our NSS scores for overall satisfaction have been above 90% for eight of the last nine years. We lead in the University on issues of diversity and inclusion and are the only department at NTU to have achieved Athena SWAN recognition.

Our commitment to teaching is shown by the collaboration of over 90 staff to create an introductory text for SAGE (3rd edition published Spring 2019) the royalties of which are used to enhance the student experience.

Applicants

You should be an enthusiastic teacher with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to supporting students' development at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Mentoring and support for development in both teaching and research will be provided to appointees appropriate to their level of experience.

NTU Psychology is committed to diversity and welcomes applications from individuals who can contribute to a wider departmental focus on cultural psychology. We also welcome applications from under-represented groups and from people who are seeking a part-time contract. Appointments will always be made on merit.
