Sensation and Perception to Awareness: Leverhulme Doctoral Scholarship Programme

Applications for the 2020 Leverhulme Doctoral Scholarship Programme are now open!

Sussex's newly-created Leverhulme Doctoral Scholarship Programme (DSP) in ‘From sensation and perception to awareness’ is one of twelve DSPs starting in 2018, funded in a part by a generous £1M grant from the Leverhulme Trust.

The programme aims to bring together researchers and doctoral students from across neuroscience, robotics, psychology, and the arts, with the ultimate aim of advancing our understanding of interactions between sensing, perceiving, and awareness in humans, animal, and machines.

Many neuroscience projects have been advertised, including:

  • Early visual processing
  • Incentive salience learning and perceptual bias
  • Neural control circuits for perceptual tuning of sensory inputs and behaviour selection
  • A genetic approach to Sensory Neuroscience
  • Neural codes for auditory feature binding

To apply for one of the advertised projects, or to propose your own, you should apply for a PhD place at Sussex using the online PhD application form.

If applying for one of the advertised projects, you should use the advert as a starting point, and develop this into a more detailed research proposal.
