The role of Neuroscience Disease Area Lead is to evaluate new targets to add to our pipeline and work as part of multiple project teams to establish and manage the screening cascades for testing and analysis of compounds from C4X Discovery’s internal Drug Discovery portfolio in in vitro and in vivo bioscience studies.
As part of this role you will have the opportunity to develop strategies to validate novel genetic targets identified though the proprietary Taxonomy3 platform in neurodegenerative diseases. You will work closely with the genetics and commercial teams to realise the transformative potential of this platform in these areas of unmet medical need.
Working with a team of chemists and in collaboration with our NMR team, and third party service providers, this role utilises the knowledge and experience of a traditional Bioscientist within a corporate environment to support our drug discovery projects. Our technology and approach is innovative and creative and requires an enthusiasm for new methods of undertaking drug discovery.
Responsibilities
• Work collaboratively with the chemists to define the strategy and screening cascade for internal Drug Discovery projects;
• Lead the experimental design and data interpretation for bioscience studies;
• Identify appropriate outsourcing partners for bioscience studies;
• Project manage bioscience studies with outsourcing partners, monitoring studies to ensure quality and timely reporting;
• Interact with scientists in a multidisciplinary setting, including medicinal chemistry, DMPK, structural biology, and toxicology;
• Evaluate novel targets to assess level of validation, linkage to disease and feasibility of initiating new drug discovery projects.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Education, Experience & Skills Required:
• Degree + 5 years minimum industry experience at project level as a Bioscientist in a Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology company.
• Experience of defining biology screening cascades for drug discovery targets.
• Experience of methodology and data analysis for a broad range of in vitro assays (primary & cellular).
• Experience in Neuroscience disease areas, particularly in Neurodegeneration.
• Excellent team working skills and influencing of multidisciplinary project teams.
• Excellent organisational and communication skills.
• Good understanding of the drug discovery process from target identification to candidate selection.
• The ability to provide leadership and scientific direction to projects through collaboration and cross-functional interaction.
Education, Experience & Skills Desired:
• PhD + 5 years industry experience.
• Experience of collaborating with external partners.
• A strong track record of innovative thinking when identifying novel solutions to problems.
• Experience of leading drug discovery projects at a functional level or across functions.
