This PhD project will use transcriptomics and systems-based approach to investigate the molecular basis of cognitive flexibility. Cognitive flexibility allows animals to navigate complex social environments. Deficits in responding appropriately to social clues is a hallmark of many mental disorders such as schizophrenia, autism and OCD. The student will use RNA-seq to examine transcriptomes in key brain regions at critical periods of learning in order to determine the molecular bases of flexible behaviour.

The project is supervised by Prof Anthony Isles, Dr Andrew Pocklington (both Cardiff) and Dr Araxi Urrutia (Bath). For informal enquiries about the project please contact Prof Isle: IslesAR1@cardiff.ac.uk
