Main Duties and Responsibilities

Working independently as well as part of a team you will design, execute and optimise biological assays using primary cells to support both basic research as well as pipeline projects as required.

Essential Requirements

  • Newly qualified PhD in a life science
  • Strong hands-on experience with primary cell culture, with experience of isolating primary neurons/astrocytes/microglia from tissue
  • Ability to evaluate cellular responses by various means, for example neurite outgrowth/synapse loss, multi-colour flow cytometry, ELISA, western blotting and/or other similar technologies
  • Highly organized and self-motivated, with the ability to work well as part of a team

  • Industry or academic working experience
  • Hands-on experience with primary cell co-culture systems eg neuron-microglia
  • Familiar with molecular biology techniques (cloning, viral vectors, RT-PCR etc) and transcriptomics
  • Experience with immunohistochemistry on CNS tissues
  • Competency with imaging methods such as live cell confocal microscopy
