Job Details

We are looking for a postdoctoral research fellow to fill a position at the newly opened facility (LARIF) at the Roslin Institute in Professor Nikki Robertson’s neonatal neuroprotection team. Prof Robertson has recently moved her team from UCL. The role of the postholder will be to work as part of the multidisciplinary team engaged in world-leading translational pre-clinical research that aims to protect the brain in newborn babies deprived of oxygen around birth. The post holder will support a 72h (round the clock) experimental study that replicates the level of intensive care needed by a newborn baby with birth asphyxia. The post holder will be expected to work 12h shifts on a rota with the rest of the team, working in pairs with technical and/or veterinary member of staff. The post holder will develop their area of research interest.

Person Criteria

Previous experience in this pre-clinical model is desirable and the post holder must have a PhD.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Previous in vivo laboratory work and knowledge of perinatal brain injury and neuroprotection
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and team working
  • Excellent IT skills in email, spreadsheets, word processing, databases
  • Good general knowledge of neuroscience in particular mechanisms mediating damage and neuroprotection
  • Be experienced in writing/preparing scientific publications
  • Have the ability to work individually and as part of a team to specified deadlines.
