Applications are invited for a full-time Post-doctoral Research Fellow position in the Surmeli Lab within the Centre for Discovery Brain Sciences of the University of Edinburgh. The Sürmeli lab combines molecular genetics tools with electrophysiology, optogenetics and calcium imaging to investigate the mechanistic principles of how memory is stored and processed in the neocortex. You will contribute to an exciting programme of research investigating neuronal circuitry and neural population codes in learning and memory. The post will focus on using in-vitro slice electrophysiology for circuit mapping and calcium imaging to monitor population activity of identified neurons in awake behaving mice using state-of-the-art miniaturized head attached microscopes (miniscope).

It is required that the applicant holds a PhD in neuroscience or related field. Additionally, experience in optical or electrophysiological methods for recording neuronal activity, or expertise in data analysis and a strong motivation to become expert in optical recording approaches is required. The successful applicant will have access to cutting-edge tools and resources for imaging and data analysis, and will be part of a research centre consisting of groups investigating neural circuitry in health and disease. Edinburgh is home to one of the largest neuroscience groupings in Europe. Applicants will be part of Edinburgh’s integrated, cross-disciplinary and vibrant neuroscience research community.

Interested applicants should email their CV including a summary of research interests and contact information of two references and additional inquiries about the post to gsurmeli@ed.ac.uk.
