The Busche lab (buschelab.com) is seeking an exceptional individual who will lead an industry co-funded (Eisai) research project focused at uncovering the long-term effects of Alzheimer’s Disease pathology on hippocampal neuronal circuit and vascular functions in vivo, how such effects relate to learning and memory deficits in mouse models of the disease, and determining whether pathophysiology is reversible. The project will involve recording neuronal activity and vascular dynamics using state of the art miniaturized head-mounted miniscopes and/or fibre photometry in freely behaving mouse models, manipulating circuits with opto- or chemogenetics, and integration of these techniques with behavioral testing .
In addition, the successful candidate will apply cutting-edge single cell and spatially-resolved transcriptomic methods as part of our ongoing collaboration with UK DRI group leader Dr Carlo Sala Frigerio.
The Busche lab is a highly interactive environment, with strong collaborations across the UK DRI as well as with collaborators both at UCL and other renowned institutions.The successful candidate will be self-directed with excellent research skills, and capable of working collaboratively within a team of international multidisciplinary researchers, while displaying independent thinking and initiative. This is an outstanding opportunity to work independently on a high impact, state-of-the-art project in a stimulating vibrant research environment. In particular, the post-holder will have the unique opportunity to work in close collaboration with scientists at Eisai, one of the world’s leading global research and development-based pharmaceutical companies, founded in 1941 and headquartered in Japan.
The post is available immediately and funded by a UK DRI grant in collaboration with Eisai for 3 years in the first instance.
