We are interested in understanding the molecular and physiological mechanisms responsible for the development and function of the mammalian auditory organ and its wiring. The proposed projects will focus on the identification of the molecular profiling of spiral ganglion neurons using a combination of techniques including electrophysiology, imaging, single-cell gene transcriptomic applied to several transgenic mouse models. The Research Associate will be jointly mentored by Dr Mirna Mustapha and Professor Walter Marcotti and the work will be conducted in their joint open laboratory spaces at the University of Sheffield.
The ideal candidate should have a strong interest in sensory systems and with expertise in electrophysiological or molecular and biochemical techniques. Experience in the preparation of acute brainstem slices for physiological recordings is also desirable. The appointee will get the opportunity to contribute significantly to the ongoing research by designing, developing and performing experiments, data analysis and disseminating the findings by writing papers and presenting work at conferences.
The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary and vibrant environment with several additional postdocs and PhD students present within the Hearing Research group at Sheffield.
