We are seeking an enthusiastic postdoctoral research associate to work on an EU-funded FET OPEN project “Neuronal networks from cortical human IPSCs for Machine Learning Processing (NeuChiP)” www.neuchip.eu The NeuChiP consortium will focus on the development of a conceptually novel approach to develop iPSC derived cortical network assemblies that can be interrogated using optogenetic, imaging and electrophysiological approaches with the aim of conducting machine learning. The research will be conducted in the College of Health and Life Sciences. The PDRA will work in the groups of Dr. Rhein Parri and Dr. Eric Hill. The Parri group has a long standing interest in control of neuronal activity and synaptic modulation, particularly by glial cells, and uses patch clamp, MEA and calcium imaging approaches. In this project the PDRA will apply these approaches to interrogating human stem cell derived networks together with the Hill group. Applicants should have a PhD in Neuroscience/hiPSC neuronal culture or a related field, with experience of electrophysiological recordings or calcium imaging. You will become part of a team of researchers working on an H2020 funded programme grant, which involves collaboration with a cross-disciplinary research team across Europe. You will interact with mathematics and machine learning experts at Aston and Physicists, mathematicians and neuromorphic computing experts in the other partners. The position will be based in the College of Life and Health Sciences at Aston University Birmingham and will report to Dr. Rhein Parri, and Dr. Eric Hill. For further information about this position, please contact Dr. Parri +44 (0)121 204 4049, (parrihr@aston.ac.uk) or Dr. Hill +44 (0)121 204 5040 (hillej@aston.ac.uk).
