This Medical Research Council funded post is available immediately until 31 May 2019, with the possibility of extension.

You will participate in a collaborative research project between Dr Kate Ellacott, Prof Andrew Randall and Dr Craig Beall focused on understanding neuronal-glial interactions in the regulation of food intake. You will utilise slice electrophysiology and 2-photon imaging to investigate the role of astrocytes in modulating the hypothalamic circuits that control feeding behaviour.

You will be focused, detail orientated, able to work independently to develop research objectives, and drive a project forward. Experience with assay development/optimisation is highly advantageous.

Applicants will possess a PhD in neuroscience or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. You will be a recognised authority and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. A background in one or more of the following areas, although not required, would be advantageous: neuroendocrinology, metabolism, neurophysiology, neuroimmunology and/or glial biology. You will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will have experience in electrophysiology and/or advanced imaging techniques, and preferably hold a Home Office personal licence.
