The post
The College wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in a project on the neurobiological mechanisms of emotional relief and self-harm in adolescents with a history of childhood sexual abuse. This Wellcome Trust funded post is available on a part-time basis from 1/1/2019 until 25/10/20 with a further possible contract extension. The project is located at the University of Exeter and conducted in collaboration with Harvard University, USA. The successful applicant will coordinate contact with vulnerable clinical populations and be directly involved in the collection and analysis of clinical, neuroimaging and psychophysiological data.
The post will include general project management duties, coordination of recruitment of young people and their caregivers, development of idiosyncratic tasks, phone and face-to-face assessments, and data analysis using SPSS and Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM). Experience in using computational modelling approaches is desirable. Some flexibility with working hours may be needed to accommodate the scheduling of research participants.
About you
The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study (psychology or neuroscience). The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in clinical or developmental psychology/neuroscience and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will be able to communicate sensitively with vulnerable young people and work to the highest ethical and safety standards.
