Vacancy Reference Number

Closing Date
12 Oct 2018
Salary
£33,199 to £39,609
Duration
Fixed term for 2 years

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of postdoctoral research fellow in Psychiatry. The post is full time and is available for 2 years.

The post would be suitable for a candidate with a PhD in psychology, psychiatry, or a related discipline. Candidates who have completed their PhD and are awaiting graduation will also be considered. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will display a strong interest in pursuing a research career.

This primary role of the postholder will be to deliver a research study which includes the use of eye tracking and EEG measures to characterise children and adults with two particular monogenic forms of intellectual disability: SYNGAP1 associated intellectual disability and fragile X syndrome. Overall management of the study will be provided by the Principal Investigator, Dr Andrew Stanfield, and funding is available for a research assistant to assist with data collection. One of the principle roles of the postholder will be to lead the EEG component of the study and prior experience and skills in this area are essential.

The environment in which the position is based offers outstanding opportunities for research and career development. The post is based within the Patrick Wild Centre (PWC), a philanthropically funded centre investigating autism and intellectual disabilities, with around 40 Principal Investigators, and the Simons Institute for the Developing Brain (SIDB). The opportunities to develop collaborations therefore exist in many areas; indeed it is anticipated that the post holder will liaise with and potentially develop collaborations with fundamental neuroscientists from the PWC and SIDB, who are studying laboratory models of these conditions. More broadly, state of the art facilities for clinical, laboratory, and data science research exist across the University of Edinburgh campus including the Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility, the Clinical Research Imaging Centre, the MRC Centre for Regenerative Medicine, the Usher Institute, and the MRC Human Genetics Unit.

Further details are available in the job description, including the person specification and an outline of the expected roles of the post. The provisional date for interview is the afternoon of Wednesday 17th October.

Prospective candidates wishing to discuss the appointment or visit should, in the first instance, contact: Dr Andrew Stanfield (andrew.stanfield@ed.ac.uk).

This post is available on a fixed-term basis for two years.
