The Silver lab ( http://silverlab.org ) investigates information processing in neural circuits in the brain by combining advanced experimental approaches with computer modelling. The Silver lab also develops tools and resources, including Open Source Brain ( http://www.opensourcebrain.org ), an online repository where neuroscientists can collaboratively develop and share computational models of neurons and networks. This initiative is being substantially extended to make experimental data freely available to the neuroscience research community.

We are looking to appoint a postdoctoral researcher to work on a project to extend the functionality of the Open Source Brain resource to support the sharing of experimental neuroscience data alongside neuronal models. This will involve building web-based infrastructure and curation and standardisation of neuroscience models and data. This will facilitate collaborative model development and model reuse by the community as well as enable interactive display and analysis of models and neuroscience data through the browser.

The post is funded for 2 years in the first instance.

The successful applicant will hold a PhD in neuroscience, physics, computer science or related field, and be experienced in computational neuroscience, neuroinformatics, or computational modelling in biology. A strong foundation in computer programming, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms and software design is essential, along with demonstrable knowledge of UNIX/Linux, experience of web development technologies and Python programming experience.
