2024 BNA Scholars announced
15th March 2024
This is an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral research scientist to make a substantial contribution to a multi-disciplinary research project led by Dr Huiling Tan at the University of Oxford. The project is funded by the Wellcome Trust ISSF, and aims to develop closed-loop deep brain stimulation based on subcortical local field potentials recorded from human subjects for improving the treatment for essential tremor.
The project will involve collecting behavioural and electrophysiological data (EEG, LFP as well as EMG) from human subjects, analysing the brain signals in real-time to decode relevant information, and then using the information to drive the deep brain stimulator. You will be based in the Experimental Neurology Group in the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences in Oxford, working closely with neuroscientists, engineers, neurologists, neurosurgeons, as well as patients undergoing deep brain stimulation.
You will manage your own academic research and administrative activities, co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines; explore and refine different machine learning-based algorithms for decoding relevant information based on electrophysiological data recorded from humans; and develop software for running and analysing the experiments.
Candidates must hold a relevant PhD/DPhil or equivalent in neuroscience or a neuroscience-related or quantitative discipline (e.g. computer science, engineering, physics). Experience in recording and analysis of EEG/LFP and sygnal analysis is essential.
The post is full-time for a fixed-term until 31 December 2019.
Only applications received before 12.00 noon on Wednesday 21 November 2018 will be considered. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
