2024 BNA Scholars announced
15th March 2024
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral neuroimmunologist to hold an Oxford Celgene Fellowship to work on a collaborative research project between the Oxford Parkinson's Disease Centre (OPDC) and Celgene to investigate T cell reactivity to alpha-synuclein in Parkinson’s disease.
This is an exciting opportunity to work at the interface between academic and pharmaceutical research and contribute to a novel aspect of Parkinson’s focused on T-cell biology. This project aims to better understand the molecular mechanisms of immunoreactivity of the Parkinson’s pathological protein alpha-synuclein working in patient samples, post-mortem brain tissue and rodent models.
You will be responsible for the design and implementation of experiments; interpretation of data; preparation of patient peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs); purification and culture of T-cells in vitro; ELISPOT assays and single cell RNA-Seq. You will be responsible for the preparation of data for publication, you will contribute ideas for new research projects and develop ideas for generating research income. You will also be responsible for managing your own academic research involving small-scale project management and act as a source of information to other members of the group.
You will have excellent practical experience of working with relevant cellular and molecular assays and models of the immune system, such as PBMCs, T cells, ELISPOT assays, gene expression analysis, post-mortem brain tissue, rodent models as well as a good knowledge of molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative disease. You will have the ability to innovate, trouble-shoot technical problems, be meticulous in practical work and in record keeping is also essential. Applicants must hold, or be near completion of, a PhD/DPhil in a relevant area of research and have experience in cellular neuroscience, and molecular cell biology relevant to analysis of neuronal phenotypes.
The post is available for 3 years, starting as soon as possible. The postholder will be based in the Laboratory of Molecular Neurodegeneration, Le Gros Clark Building, South Parks Road, Oxford OX1 3QX.
Informal enquiries may be directed Professor Richard Wade-Martins (richard.wade-martins@dpag.ox.ac.uk).
The closing date for applications is 12.00 midday on Friday 23 November 2018. Interviews are likely to be held the week commencing Monday 3 December 2018.
