The Department of Psychological Sciences at Birkbeck College, University of London invites applications for a new senior academic position in human neuroscience. The department is particularly interested in applicants who combine MRI-based research with systems, cognitive, and/or computational neuroscience theoretical approaches.
Applicants must have a PhD, and should have a strong track record in attracting PhD students and external funding, as well as in building and sustaining research teams and scientific collaborations. We especially encourage applications from people whose gender, ethnic group, or economic status are underrepresented at higher levels in academia.
The successful candidate will benefit from the highly interactive research environment in the Department of Psychological Sciences as well as at the Birkbeck/UCL Centre for NeuroImaging (BUCNI). BUCNI is a joint Birkbeck/UCL research-only MRI centre which has a strong focus on human structural and functional neuroanatomy, developmental processes, and basic clinical neuroscience.
BUCNI has an excellent physics, scientific programming, and engineering team who collaborate with BUCNI-based researchers to promote technical and theoretical innovations. Birkbeck and UCL have also jointly invested in a new Siemens 3T Prisma scanner, planned to be operational in autumn 2018.

Salary: Grade 9 (Reader) or 10 (Professor) of the College's London Pay Scale. Grade 9 is currently on £54,268 rising to £60,600 per annum. Grade 10 is currently starting at £62,305 per annum.
This post is full time, 35 hours per week (1.0 FTE) and open-ended. The salary quoted above is on the College's London Pay Scale and includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area. The initial salary will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. The appointment is subject to a probationary period of 3 years.
