Applications are invited for a Psychology Research Assistant to join the clinical research team led by Prof Francesco Muntoni at the Dubowitz Neuromuscular Centre, which undertakes high quality research into neuromuscular diseases.
You will be part of a small team working on furthering our understanding of psychological problems in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) and in the development of new outcome measures to assess this. The project is aimed at understanding the neural mechanisms underlying anxiety and fearfulness in DMD. The primary goals of the project are 1) to establish whether there is an abnormal fear response in boys with DMD; and 2) whether the methods used to measure this response (fear-conditioning task) could be used as an outcome measure in future clinical trials of therapeutic interventions. The main duties of the post are to recruit and test participants, collect an enter data and basic statistical analysis. There may also be involvement in other relevant research studies within the department.
This post offers an exciting opportunity for candidates to be involved in a developing area of psychological research within childhood neuromuscular conditions.
The post is available for 12 months in the first instance.
