Salary

Address

Duration
Fixed term until 30 June 2020

The Division of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neuroscience at the Cardiff University School of Medicine seeks to appoint a Research Assistant.

The successful applicant will be based in Prof Lesley Jones’ Huntington’s disease research group and will work in the MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics. The researcher will conduct research on a study entitled ‘Pilot investigation to characterise the in vitro and in vivo effects of FAN1 in Huntington’s disease’, while working with the wider Huntington’s disease (HD) research group.

The work will examine the effects of genetic variants in the DNA damage response which our research has discovered to be modifiers of the age at onset or progression of HD. You will use models of HD, available in the HD research group, to investigate the mechanisms by which these modifier genetic variants operate. You will use laboratory methodologies and analyses and other appropriate techniques for molecular, cellular and behavioural analysis and neurobiological characterisation in induced pluripotent stem cells, patient-derived cells and transgenic models of Huntington’s disease.

You will conduct genetic manipulation via CRISPR and biochemical assays in cell models of HD, including pluripotent stem cells and the associated analysis of data produced. A background in molecular biology and biochemical techniques such as cell culture, gene editing and biochemical assays would be advantageous.

This post is full time (35 hours per week), available from 1st June 2019 and is fixed term until 30th June 2020.

Salary: £27,025 - £31,302 per annum (Grade 5).
