Applications are invited for a junior Research Assistant position in the Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Centre & Radiological Sciences, School of Medicine at the University of Nottingham.

The post is funded by the Birmingham-Nottingham Strategic Collaboration Fund, encouraging and accelerating research collaborations between members of the two Universities. This is a project that focuses on exploring the associations between neuroimaging markers and cognitive decline and aging. With an increasingly ageing world population, mental health problems (such as dementia) pose a challenge to the quality of life and longevity and neuroimaging can provide insight into aging mechanisms.

The project aims to develop multiplatform (transferable across multiple scanners at UoN/UoB) MRI scanning and analysis protocols in order to identify multimodal (structure+function) brain connectivity changes associated with age-related cognitive decline. This will be the first step to allow, in the longer-term, investigations of imaging markers that reveal susceptibility to dementia.

The post holder will be will be a junior Research Assistant (ideally with an MSc in a relevant field) and will be part of the computational neuroimaging and analysis group in the Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Centre (SPMIC), School of Medicine, University of Nottingham. They will work under the supervision of Associate Professor Stam Sotiropoulos (www.nottingham.ac.uk/medicine/people/stamatios.sotiropoulos), who has considerable experience in conducting research in the field of brain mapping and Dr Magda Chechlacz, School of Psychology, University of Birmingham, who has a long standing expertise in using neuroimaging to assess cognitive ageing. The successful candidate will join the existing inter-disciplinary team of imaging researchers in the SPMIC (www.nottingham.ac.uk/magres) and expected to benefit from collaboration opportunities with researchers within the Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre, as well as the new Centre for Human Brain Health at the University of Birmingham (www.birmingham.ac.uk/research/activity/centre-human-brain-health/).

This position is full time, fixed term for 11 months. Applications for job share will be accepted.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Stam Sotiropoulos, email STAMATIOS.SOTIROPOULOS@NOTTINGHAM.AC.UK. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
