The Neuroscience and Mental Health Research Institute (NMHRI) brings together world-class leaders in neuroscience, mental health and psychology research from Cardiff University and beyond to further the understanding and treatment of major psychiatric and neurological disorders, which represent some of the greatest challenges to society. The Institute membership is drawn broadly from the Schools of Medicine, Biosciences, Psychology and Optometry.

The successful applicant will work on a project, using clinical tissue and stem cell lines, to investigate the role of FADS 2 in mental health problems, and will apply this knowledge to help develop suitable systems for testing novel interventions to treat bipolar disorder targeting fatty acid metabolism through dietary or targeted pharmacological intervention.

You will be degree qualified in a relevant discipline (neuroscience, cell biology, pharmacology, or related subjects) or have equivalent experience. You will possess existing knowledge and understanding of specialist research methods and techniques, specifically neurobiology, molecular cell biology or stem cells, and proven ability to analyse complex information. In addition, you will be an excellent communicator and team player; creative, self-motivated and organised.

This post is full time (35 hours per week), available immediately and is fixed term for one year.
