Applications are invited for a Research Assistant or Research Associate in the Psychosis Studies Department to work within the “Translational Neuroscience and Psychiatry” research group led by Dr Sagnik Bhattacharyya. The position will be mainly involved in a multi-centre NIHR-EME funded study evaluating a new pharmacological treatment for the early phase of psychosis. The aim of this study is to obtain definitive evidence regarding the efficacy, safety and tolerability of cannabidiol as a treatment for people who are at clinical high-risk of developing psychosis. A key component of the project involves the application of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques such as fMRI and spectroscopy to investigate the neural and neurochemical mechanisms that may underlie these therapeutic effects. You will join a productive research team with a track record of investigating the harmful as well as beneficial effects of cannabinoids and their neural underpinnings in health and mental disorders.

The post holder will have the leading role managing and coordinating the day-to-day running of the study, and in particular in planning, co-ordinating and completing the project under the direction of the Chief Investigator (Bhattacharyya). In addition, the post holder will also take a lead role in organising/ conducting the neuroimaging aspect of the proposed study and in supporting other researchers in participant identification and/ or study visit activities as appropriate.

Previous experience in the management and co-ordination of clinical trials is desirable but not essential. This position will ideally suit a researcher who may have just completed their PhD or are in the final stages of submission. However, exceptional candidates without a PhD but with appropriate level of experience will also be considered. The successful candidate may have a degree in Psychology, Neuroscience or a related area (2:1 or above) and will need excellent communication skills. Those with a medical background with relevant research experience are welcome to apply, but the position is not funded for a clinician. Research experience in the area of mental health, neuroimaging or experimental medicine is desirable. Postdoctoral applicants will be expected to take a leading role in supervising or independently carrying out the processing and analysis of neuroimaging data acquired in the study.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 12 months (with possible extension subject to funding).

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent.

The selection process will include a panel interview.
