An exciting opportunity has been created for a patient-facing research assistant to recruit and assess patients for a clinical research study which aims to investigate the mechanisms of pain in musculoskeletal conditions. The postholder will be trained to independently test pain perception and analyse data in these patients. The postholder will be a member of the Pain Analgesia/Anaesthesia Imaging Neuroscience group and has an excellent opportunity to further develop their own research skills.

The postholder will manage the recruitment and screening of new participants in order to establish their eligibility and safety to enter the study, and to register participants into studies. They will also manage the process of facilitating the informed consent process and provide ongoing information, education and support to participants, plus coordinate their research visits. They will conduct pain measurements using quantitative sensory testing and assisting with acquisition of neuroimaging data.

The postholder must hold a degree in a relevant subject and have excellent written and oral communication skills, evidenced by the ability to explain and interpret procedures clearly and sensitively. They should have excellent inter-personal skills and the ability to organise, prioritise and co-ordinate workload. Previous relevant experience of a people-facing role is essential. Experience of working in a clinical or research environment would be desirable.

The post is full-time and fixed-term until 31 August 2021 in the first instance.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on Monday 27 January 2020 will be considered. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
