Applications are invited for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work within the School of Psychology, University of Birmingham. The successful candidate will work on a project to study the role of brain oscillations and attention in the visual system (lab of Dr Ole Jensen). The methodological focus of the project is MEG recordings and brain stimulation in human subjects. The postdoctoral researcher will be involved in all stages of designing and conducting experiments, analysing electrophysiological data. The postdoctoral researcher will be expected to prepare the results for high quality academic publications, to present at national and international academic conferences, and to engage in public activities. Furthermore that Research Fellow will take part in supervision students and contribute to the School of Psychology through leadership.

Main Duties / Responsibilities

  • Collect research data using MEG
  • Analyse research data using Matlab
  • Partake in events such as group meetings and journal clubs
  • Present research outputs, including drafting academic publications or parts thereof, for example at seminars, workshops and conferences and as posters
  • Develop or adapt techniques, models and methods
  • Provide guidance as required to support staff and any students who may be assisting with research
  • Deal with problems such a technical issues with the MEG and data analysis that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines
  • Carry out administrative tasks related directly to the delivery of the research. This includes recruitment of subjects as well as organizational matters associated with the research group

Person Specification

  • A PhD in relevant subject area e.g. cognitive neuroscience
  • Practical experience of conduction human’s psychophysical experiments
  • Ability to analyse research data and communicate research results effectively
  • Ability to access and organise resources successfully
