Using an all-human dynamic flow 3D in vitro model of the BBB established by Dr Jane Alder’s Research Group, pathological changes that occur at the BBB during neurodegeneration will be modelled following microbiological exposure and induction of an inflammatory phenotype. Three key areas will be investigated: 1) changes in the disease induced in vitro BBB model verses healthy in vitro BBB; 2) how mechanisms of damage at the BBB lead to changes in the brain parenchyma, in particular microglia and 3) identification of druggable anti-inflammatory targets at the BBB.

Applications should have experience of teaching/academic support and research in a Higher Education setting and experience of supervising undergraduate laboratories and projects. A PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject is essential and the successful candidate will have experience of a broad range of molecular biology/biochemistry techniques.

The post holder will have experience of designing, executing and interpreting experiences as well as presentation and national and international conferences.

Applicants need to meet all essential criteria on the person specification to be considered for interview. This position is based in Preston.
