Applications are invited for a full-time Research Associate position to study the neural mechanisms of inner speech in silent reading. Inner speech is an inwardly audible speech experience without hearing external speech. It has similar acoustic characteristics with overt speech and also activates the auditory cortex in the brain. Using EEG and eye tracking, the current project aims to uncover how inner speech experience may arise from the brain’s oscillatory synchrony and how it influences the reading process.

The Research Associate will carry out several EEG studies and manage all aspects of research under the supervision of Dr Bo Yao.

The post will start from 1/9/2019 for 5 months initially, with the possibility of a further 7-month extension (until 31/8/2020).

The successful candidate will have a PhD (or equivalent) in cognitive neuroscience or a closely related subject area. They will be experienced in EEG research and be familiar with MatLab toolboxes such as SPM and EEGLAB. Candidates with research experience in neural oscillations, speech processing or reading are particularly welcome.
