Full time, 6 month contract

Chronic pain is a common sequela of military- and trauma-related injuries. Understanding why some people develop ongoing post-traumatic pain is therefore a priority for both affected war fighters and civilians. Notwithstanding, the mechanisms that underlie the transition from acute to chronic disabling post-traumatic pain are not fully understood. Such knowledge would facilitate the development and implementation of a clinical pathway of care that matches evidence-based interventions to projected risk of poor recovery to prevent chronicity. We are recruiting a Research Associate to assist on a project which will apply state-of-the-art methodologies to better understand acute post-traumatic pain and prognosis in relation to the development of ongoing pain and disability. Moreover, to utilise this knowledge to develop and evaluate the feasibility of incorporating timely interventions for concomitant physical functioning and psychological health to prevent and/or reverse processes that mediate the transition from acute to chronic pain.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have a MSc and/or PhD and specialisation in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy. They will have solid knowledge of pain neuroscience, musculoskeletal physiotherapy and methodology for evaluation of musculoskeletal pain. Ideally the candidate will have experience with quantitative sensory testing. The candidate should be highly-motivated, with a strong desire for career development. Excellent communication skills will be essential.
