This 3-year post-doctoral position in the laboratory of Dr Darren Williams is funded by the BBSRC.   

The Centre for Developmental Neurobiology is a world-leading centre in the field of developmental neuroscience and brain disorders, situated in central London.  

We are seeking a bright, talented, and self-motivated post-doctoral researcher to join our team. Candidates should have a PhD in Biological Sciences and ideally have experience with Drosophila genetics, neurobiology, and imaging techniques.   

 This post will be offered on a fixed term contract to 1st May 2025.

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Undertake original biomedical research as an integral member of a group working on the development of the adult nervous system of Drosophila, specifically focusing on the growth and size control of complex neuronal arborizations. 
  • Design and optimize strategies for visualizing subcellular compartments of neurons using state-of-the-art molecular techniques. 
  • Perform live imaging in Drosophila 
  • Design experiments, analyse and interpret data.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

  • Molecular biology techniques 
  • Fly genetics 
  • Strong dissection and immunohistochemistry skills 
  • Confocal/2P microscopy 
  • Basic programming skills 
  • Ability to work independently in the design and execution of experiments 
  • Be a team player  

Desirable criteria

  • Experience with Transcriptomics 
  • MATLAB / Python for image analysis 
  • A strong publication record in neuroscience 
  • Experience of live imaging
