Research Associate

Research Assistant

The salary will be paid at Grade 5, £31,883 to £36,442 per annum, inclusive of £3,223 per annum London Allowance.

Applications are invited for a Research Associate or Research Assistant to join the laboratory of Professor Gunter Schumann at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King’s College London. We are seeking a talented and highly motivated individual to participate in an interdisciplinary research programme on population neuroscience and precision medicine that is supported by different funding agencies, including the European Research Council, the European Commission, the UK-Medical Research Council, the U.S. National Institute of Health, the Human Brain Project and others. To achieve the goals of this programme we require a computer scientist/applied mathematician with experience in handling biological datasets, or related fields.

Our overall aim is to identify, in several large adolescent behavioural neuroimaging-genetics cohorts that are both population- and patient-based, widely applicable early markers for neural processes that specifically predict psychopathology and allow for targeted early interventions. This work involves data analyses of existing large scale datasets, including IMAGEN, ENIGMA, ALSPAC, SCAMP and UK biobank) as well as datasets in Europe, China and India that are currently being generated allowing cross-cultural comparisons of adolescent brain development and behaviour, as well identification of genetic and environmental determinants. The analyses will employ state of the art stratification and prediction techniques, including deep learning methods and various sparse representational techniques. Results generated will be followed up using functional biological characterization, both in our research group (functional –omics), as well as an active international network of collaborating partners (including animal behavioural experts).

The successful candidate will have a track record of the highest standard in their respective fields and are expected to be experienced in several, but not all of the methods required in this programme.
