Applications are invited for a Research Associate to join the Stroke Research Team (Dr Alex Granata and Prof Hugh Markus) in collaboration with Dr Sanjay Sinha at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus to work on a project investigating the role of HDAC9 in large-artery stroke.
We are looking for an experienced Research Associate who will play a key role in elucidating the vascular mechanisms by which a genetic variant of HADC9 increases the risk of stroke.
Scientists with a strong background in molecular and cell biology are encouraged to apply. An understanding of vascular biology, epigenetics and disease modelling would be desirable.
The Cambridge Stroke Research Group has an international reputation in stroke genetics, having played a central role in the major advances, which have been made over the last 10 years (http://www.cambridgestroke.com/), including the discovery of HDAC9 risk variant associated with large-vessel ischaemic stroke. The translational research team, lead by Dr Granata, is now seeking to understand the role of HDAC9 in stroke by using a human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) disease model.
The successful candidate will have a track record of productivity, innovation and creativity. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team are essential. Individuals will be supported to apply for additional funding and become competitive for research fellowships by the end of this post.
Candidates will have a PhD in a relevant discipline and up to 5 years post-doctoral experience is desirable.
