2024 BNA Scholars announced
15th March 2024
We are looking to appoint a dedicated Research Fellow for a collaborative and highly interdisciplinary research project between the Busche and the Sala Frigerio labs at UCL DRI. The Busche group (http://www.buschelab.com) has a unique expertise in multiphoton calcium imaging of large neuronal populations in the intact brain in vivo and the Sala Frigerio group is experienced in single cell genomics analysis and spatially-resolved transcriptomics. The post holder will carry out ground breaking work combining these two approaches in animal models of dementia.
We strive for impactful science in a collegial and highly-collaborative research environment that offers cutting-edge instrumentation and facilities. The appointee will certainly benefit from the strong connections between the two labs and other labs at UCL DRI as well as to the clinic and career development is a top priority.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD or equivalent in Neuroscience or a neuroscience-related or quantitative discipline (e.g. physics, engineering). Applicants must have strong backgrounds in computational biology, knowledge of statistical analysis methods and a track record of writing and publishing high-quality scientific articles. Proficiency in relevant programming languages (e.g. MATLAB, Python, R) with regards to analysing imaging and/or electrophysiological data, and excellent inter-personal skills and cooperation within a multidisciplinary team are also required.
Experience in the analysis of next generation sequencing data, including single cell RNAseq data, and with in vivo two-photon calcium imaging and/or electrophysiology and related surgical approaches is desirable.
The post is available immediately and is funded by the UK DRI @ UCL for a period of three years in the first instance. The post is graded as UCL Grade 7 with salary in the range £35,328 - £42,701 per annum including London Allowance.
Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £30,922 - £32,607 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis. If the PhD has not yet been granted, the final accepted version of the thesis must have been submitted to the degree-granting university by the start date.
You should apply for this post through UCL’s online recruitment website, www.ucl.ac.uk/hr/jobs, where you can download a full job description and person specification using ref 1808568.
