About the job

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join a collaborative research team (Duguid and Cobb laboratories) at the Centre for Discovery Brain Sciences in Edinburgh, funded by the Medical Research Council.

We are seeking an outstanding candidate to contribute to the development of a high-quality research programme investigating sensorimotor dysfunction in a mouse model of Rett syndrome. The post-holder will use mesoscale calcium imaging, high-density silicone probe recordings and quantitative behaviour to investigate how loss of function mutations in the X-linked Mecp2 gene affects cortex-wide neural dynamics during sensorimotor learning. By working in close collaboration with the Cobb laboratory the post-holder will also help in the design and delivery of viral-mediated gene re-expression methods to investigate whether MeCP2 re-expression recovers high-level cortical function and behaviour.

Requirements

  • A PhD in neuroscience or related subject
  • Experience in quantitative rodent behaviour
  • Experience in in vivo imaging and/or electrophysiology
  • A working knowledge of rodent surgery
  • Competent in the breeding & maintenance of transgenic mouse lines
  • Friendly and able to work as part of a close collaborative team
  • Good written and oral communication skills
