An exciting opportunity has arisen for a postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on a project using non-invasive transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) combined with electroencephalography (EEG) in people who have epilepsy with a genetic contribution. This project is part of a ground-breaking genomics programme led by Professor Sanjay Sisodiya, which aims to obtain a large genomic dataset and link it with phenotypes in order to better realise personalised medicine for people with epilepsy.

The post is based at the well-known Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy in Buckinghamshire with visits to UCL sites in London.  The Centre has state-of-the-art translational research facilities and onsite laboratories. The post holder will be responsible for recruitment of patients and controls, running TMS-EEG experiments and analysing data. TMS methods will also be used to help interpret genomic data generated for people with epilepsy. An appropriate Honorary Clinical contract will be sought from UCLH NHS Foundation Trust, for which a DBS check will be required.

Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant subject (Physics, Biomedical Engineering or Neuroscience) and in depth knowledge of, and experience of applying, neurophysiological techniques. Experience of applying TMS and EEG, and of using neuronavigation systems, statistical analysis and programming software (eg, MATLAB) is essential. Excellent oral and written communication and good interpersonal skills, and a very high level of consideration and care for patients and research subjects, are also required.

The post is available immediately and is funded by a grant from the Epilepsy Society for the period to October 2021 in the first instance. Starting salary on UCL Grade 7 in the range £35,328 - £42,701 per annum (including London Allowance).
