The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £35,328 - £42,701 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

A post is available for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join a multi-disciplinary group headed by Prof William D Richardson FMedSci FRS, investigating the role of oligodendrocytes and myelin in learning and memory processes (“adaptive myelination”). The Reserach Fellow will be responsible for designing and to conducting behavioural and histochemical studies of genetically modified mice.

This post will be available for one year in the first instance.

The candidate should have successfully completed their PhD studies in a relevant neuroscience-related field (appointment to Research Fellow depends ultimately on the award of PhD). He/she should hold a Home Office Personal Licence and should have gained experience of mouse genetic models – for example, Cre-lox recombination. He/she should also have a good knowledge of developmental and/or systems neuroscience and some anatomical understanding of the mouse brain and spinal cord.

He/she should have experience of mouse colony management and genotyping, a high level of competence in immunohistochemistry and fluorescence/confocal microscopy and should be familiar with standard molecular biology techniques such as vector design and construction. The Research Fellow must have excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing, preferably demonstrated by a record of publication in international scientific journals.  He/she should be able to interact and collaborate effectively with research peers and colleagues.
