2024 BNA Scholars announced
15th March 2024
The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £35,328 - £42,701 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
An ambitious Research Fellow (postdoctoral researcher) is required to join the lab of Dr. Caswell Barry (caswell.barry@ucl.ac.uk). Their primary role will be to carry out research on the neurophysiological basis of memory and spatial navigation.
Work will focus on the contribution of replay and reactivations to system-level memory consolidation and navigational planning. The research will involve multi-site single unit recording from the hippocampus and cortical regions (e.g. mEC, mPFC) and will be paired with optogenetic suppression of replay. S/he will assist in the design and running of experimental procedures, analysing neural spike and local field potential data, writing up the results, and should have a desire to publish in prestigious journals. Other techniques being used in the lab which may become relevant to this project include rodent virtual reality, chemogenetic manipulations, as well as computational modelling and machine learning.
The post is available from now until 30 November 2023 with possibility of extension.
PhD (or about to submit) in relevant subject area with practical experience in behavioural neuroscience is essential as is competence in electrophysiological single unit recordings (surgery and data collection) – ideally from freely moving rodents and experience of behavioural training and testing of animals – ideally rodents.
Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (Salary £30,922 - £32,607 per annum, including London Allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis (including corrections).
