Applications are invited for the post of Research Fellow in the Institute of Behavioural Neuroscience (IBN), located within the Experimental Psychology Research Department, UCL. The project, funded by a MRC grant awarded to Sam Solomon in association with Aman Saleem and Francesca Cacucci, aims to understand how neurodegenerative diseases change the functional organisation and information processing of the visual cortex. We are particularly interested in how adaptive sensory processes are affected by neurodegenerative diseases, because these processes are likely to be sensitive to neural dysfunction, and may also provide a good model of related cognitive deficits supported by other brain areas. The project will involve multi-channel electrophysiology, anatomical and behavioural measurements in a mouse model of tau-related neurodegeneration.

The successful candidate will be expected to design, conduct and analyse data from electrophysiology experiments in mice, and to conduct and analyse data from anatomical experiments. The appointee will also be expected to contribute to the writing of manuscripts and presenting the data at international conferences. Strong support for personal and professional development will be available.

Further information about the IBN is available on http://www.ucl.ac.uk/ibn

This post is funded for 24 months, in the first instance.

Applicants must hold a PhD, or have submitted their thesis, in neuroscience/psychology and have experience of neural recording in animals. The ability to work as part of a research team is essential, as is the ability to problem-solve in a technical setting. Computer skills including Matlab programming are desirable.

Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £30,922-£32,607 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
